When the car was purchased in 1989 the 283 and 2 Speed Power Glide had already been replaced with a 327 and a Turbo 350. Over the next 3 years the transmission and small block were rebuilt. The front suspension was completely rebuilt. The brakes were done. Next steps were body work and paint. Unfortunately those steps were never completed as the car was in an accident in 1992. |

A replacement dog house was purchased and set on the car with the intention of finding a body shop to properly mount the dog house and do all the remaining body work. Needless to say other expenses and responsibilities came before the car and it sat for 11 years. Click on photos for large view. |

The photos on this page were taken a couple of days before the car was picked up and delivered to Randy's for it's frame off restoration. Prior to 1989 the car was in California and the effects of the sea air were already evident when the car was purchased. All those years under canvas covers allowed the then minor rust to run it's ugly course. |

The quarter panels had rusted out behind the wheels which I learned is typical of early Chevelles especially when the drain plugs are not removed to allow moisture to dry. The trunk has rusted through in about 3 different places and will be replaced with new weld in panels. Click on photos for large view. |

The motor had just been rebuilt and only had about 1100 miles on it before the accident. The motor rebuild included flat top pistons, a steel crank, slightly over stock cam, 202 fuelly heads and electronic ignition. The car ran very well ... right into the back of a 1974 Duster.
